movie review for 211- madagascar: escape 2 africa

Sequels are like a second date, complicated. Handled incorrectly, and they can ruin your pleasant memories from the first movie. Thankfully, the people at DreamWorks pictures did everything right with Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. The story is richer and the animation is even more impressive than the first Madagascar movie.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa brings back the finest elements of Madagascar, including the familiar critters: Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippo, Melman the giraffe and my personal favorite the nutty lemur King Julian. Even Mort, the adorable lemur, returns for more adventures. Building on the characters we grew to love in Madagascar, the writers have added a herd of new characters who are just as entertaining.

In fact, in many ways Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is a better movie than Madagascar. The first movie established the personality of each of the characters so the writers were able to jump right into the story. The friendship between the four characters is stronger after having spent some time away from the comforts of their home in Central Park zoo. The old ‘home is where your heart is’ saying comes into play. And there is even a little romance featured in Madagascar 2, which is sweet to watch develop. Plus, this one’s got monkey’s demanding maternity leave and the return of the feisty old granny who kicks butt like Jet Li on steroids.
