when walking around a large city, an iPod is a necessity.
(i would know, i've been people watching for three weeks now.)
i ditched the iPod around my sophomore year at BYU thinking that it was anti social and well, it is. iPod on = "don't talk to me, i can't hear you and i'm very serious about getting to where i'm going". but, in an effort to fit in with the bostonians, i have taken up wearing my earbuds on my walks through the city.
i must admit, however, that the moments when i'm free of the dang iPod i have met a lot of really great people.
hey boston! take out your earbuds, let's talk!!

don't do it. Hopefully people will see that you DON'T have to lock yourself in ... and they will follow your way!
